5 Things You Need To Know About Fitness & Pregnancy

6-pack abs during pregnancy seems to be a trend that isn't going away. Women pushing their bodies above and beyond has now become a badge of honour and the fitness world is loving it which scares the crap out of me! As a fitness professional the specializes in prenatal and postnatal women, actually all fitness professionals are responsible for keeping all clients safe but some are missing the point.

If you are expecting a baby and plan to continue to exercise, be safe. Although there is no evidence that supports miscarriage while exercising, doesn't mean that there are no risks.

If you are working with a trainer or group instructor, there are steps they can take as well, like requiring you to have your Doctor fill, out a PARmed for pregnancy. Here are a few more ways to stay safe.

1. Understand the physiological changes during pregnancy and how they affect you during working out. Your body is hard at work and rapid changed are taking place 24/7. Your blood volume is increasing, your heart rate is picking up, and your ligaments and joints are becomming more lax. With all of these changes, you may feel a little dizzy, bendy, and unstable. 2. Everything does not "go" during pregnancy. This isn't the time to be proving to anyone that you can do push-ups, run, Olympic lift, plank, jump, run marathons, squat 200 pounds. Exercise is still important at this time but your body is working hard to make a baby. 3. Educate yourself. I have taken certification courses, spent hours studying and in class, researching, working and learning from experts from all over the country to give the advice that I do. By educating yourself, you will be able to make informed decisions when it come to exercise and pregnancy.

4. Ask questions. When talking to your healthcare provider, tell them everything about your program. They may not know the extent of your training and the advice they will give will be backed by research and not opinion.

5. Talk to someone who specializes in working with prenatal moms, this is your best resource and many are happy to do a free consult. This is a safe place where you can ask all of the questions you want and get expert advice that specific to you rather than in general terms on a website.

If you would like to speak wiith me directly, please send me an email with your questions. I read and answer every email I get personally.

I know first hand how important this is and take it seriously. We see videos and pictures of moms working pretty hard during their pregnancies and yes, their babies are healthy and thriving. But there are stories you don't see in social media and these are the stories I hear. I work with these moms who's lives have been forever changed and who wish they did things differently.
